Navy reports greater Pearl Harbor losses than prior

Navy figures show American ships sunk and damaged in Pearl Harbor are worse than earlier announced while many vessels are back in service or nearing repair. Takes Amenca Production Figures From World War II Report

The report cites Allied output in the first year of the war from scratch: 49 000 planes 2 000 tanks and self propelled artillery 17 000 anti aircraft guns over 20 mm and 8 200 000 tons of merchant shipping. OWI says production would rise two thirds next year. Roosevelt set 1942 goals of 60 000 planes 45 000 tanks 20 000 anti aircraft guns and ships. It notes 86 ships moored at Pearl Harbor when Japan attacked. An emergency cylinder gas system is described as powering landing gear and bomb bay doors if hydraulic systems fail.

Battle Looms on New GOP Party Chairman

St Louis dispatch reports a split in the Republican ranks as Werner W Schroeder of Illinois backs Wendell Wilkie against isolationist foes. A compromise failed and Schroeder declared he is in the fight to win as balloting nears for the party's national chairman. Refusal to Pay 1941 Quarterly Unemployment Taxes

The Employment Security Division ruled that the calendar year for contributions is the period payments are received, not due. Lion paid the last quarter of 1941 on January 24, 1942, lowering quarterly contributions to 4660.29. Supreme Court upholds uniform trucking rates set by the Corporation Commission November 22, 1941, amid challenges by Southeast Arkansas Freight Lines and others. Garland chancery court is ordered to grant Raymon Ledwidge a divorce and discontinue $40 monthly alimony. The High Court affirms denial of a divorce for Myrtle Bonner but reverses cancelation of a prenuptial agreement. Radio stations in Holland went off air for 40 minutes as 400 Allied fighters supported 200 British and American bombers. RAF losses included 12 bombers.
