The U S Public Health Service outlines monovalent and bivalent swine flu vaccines for adults 18 and older in Hempstead County. High risk groups include those 65 plus and people with chronic diseases. vaccines run December 8 to 10 at five county sites with precautions noted for pregnancy egg allergy and recent vaccines.
The Arkansas Supreme Court reversed the first degree murder conviction of Earl Griffin in the death of 3 year old Anthony McNabb. The defense had sought to introduce testimony from a witness who would have implicated the mother Ethel McNabb in the boy's death. Griffin was sentenced to life in prison after conviction in Craighead County. The child was found semiconscious September 11 1975 after McNabb left to get food stamps. Griffin claimed the child was injured in a fall and the defense claimed McNabb beat the boy. the witness testimony to Chen was denied by Judge Gerald Pearson.
President elect Carter said he is not sure a tax cut is needed next year and will decide after consulting Congress. He aims to cut unemployment by 1.5 points but acknowledges 8.1 percent nationwide joblessness now. Lance, his budget chief pick, calls a tax cut virtually certain? The piece notes possible $15 billion rebate or tax investment credits as part of an economy stimulus package.
The Supreme Court indefinitely postponed the Friday execution of Robert Excell White a 30 year old Waco Texas drifter who claimed he deserved to die The decision follows a similar delay in Utah for Gary Gilmore another inmate seeking death Justice Rehnquist dissented and would have denied the delay
White, sentenced to die for the 1974 robbery murder of a 73 year old grocer, told the Supreme Court he does not want a federal appeal and is prepared to accept the sentence. Gilmore was to die today but a stay was granted by his mother.
The Hope Police Department recorded three weekend accidents. Norma Bain of Hope slowed for a railroad crossing and was rear ended by Richard C. Williams, who faced a following too close charge. A Sumner Drive car was backed into in TG&Y lot with no charges yet. Mary Anita Laseter was hit by Gordon Shores on Highway 29 near the United Methodist Church. both were injured and treated, no charges filed.
The community coffee will be held from 9 30 to 11 a m Wednesday at the Chamber of Commerce office and is sponsored by Mrs Bobby Feathers of Holiday Inn.
