55 Missing in Quebec Home for Aged
A fire at a three story wooden home for the aged on Lake Temiscouata in Notré-Dame-du-Lac Que left up to 55 residents unaccounted for. Police said about 60 to 75 people were in the building, with 69 elderly patients confirmed and 17 listed as crippled. Firefighters and volunteers fought the blaze from early morning. some escapees were hospitalized and others sheltered in nearby homes.

Hot Check Fraud Report Implicates Local Stores
Sheriff Jimmie Griffin said Tuesday that 508 in forged checks were accepted by at least a dozen local stores. The checks, from 38 to 120 dollars, were forged on Fred Glanton. A two story boarding house near downtown Hot Springs was gutted by fire. Lawrence Earhart was killed and Mrs. Dottie Black, 66, was injured and hospitalized in Little Rock. The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
