Four Die and Four Hurt in Arkansas Highway Crash

A head-on collision on Highway 6 near Driver Arkansas killed four people and injured four others. The Turner family from Jackson Mississippi and Otto Woods of Portageville Missouri perished. Hulda Lambert and May Woods among the injured. The Peters car, driven by Bernadine Peters of Portageville, carried the Lamberts and Woodses. State Police said Turner crossed the center line.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled in Municipal Court today for Kenneth Anderson 27 charged with first degree murder in the shooting of his estranged wife Nadine Rose Anderson Sheriff Courtney Langston said Anderson surrendered Saturday following the slaying of Nadine Rose Anderson in Marianna Ark The case hinges on the domestic murder claim and the suspect remains in custody.

Democratic Club Figure Dies in Arkansas

Mrs. Carson Hefner, 71, of Little Rock died in a hospital Saturday. A prominent figure in Arkansas Democratic women’s circles she was named Arkansas Democratic Woman of the Year several years ago and served as a delegate to three Democratic national conventions. At her death she was counsellor for the Arkansas Democratic Women's Clubs.

59th Division Is Back Home From Fort Chaffee

Fort Smith Arkansas AP Most members of the Army Reserve's 95th Division are back home today after a two week summer encampment at Fort Chaffee. A highway construction project one mile south of Brinksley is noted. Clement Willis, eight, of West Memphis, drowned Sunday while swimming with others at Maddox Bay near Holly Grove. Theresa Gail Longnecker, five, of Stuttgart, died in Lithia Rock hospital Saturday from injuries after being struck by a car near her Stuttgart home last Monday. Mrs Nadine Rose Anderson, twenty three, of Marianna, was shot to death Saturday. Her estranged husband, Kenneth Anderson, twenty seven, admitted the shooting and was charged with first degree murder.

Probe to study Traskwood freight explosion in Arkansas

Washington AP reports the Bureau of Mines will lead a $60,000 investigation into the ammonium nitrate freight train blast near Traskwood Arkansas. The funding will be provided by the Manufacturers Chemists Association of Washington.

Four Teens Lost Overnight on Lake Conway

Four teenagers Jackie Justice 15 Peggy 18 Patricia Lunsford 14 and Lee 12 spent Friday night adrift on a boat at Lake Conway Arkansas. They ashore at dawn and waited as searchers combed the lake. They found their boat and returned home Saturday morning.
