The Associated Press reports a good chance of rain across Arkansas Tuesday with a 50 percent probability in the northwest and 60 percent elsewhere. Today’s chances range from 20 to 40 percent by region and will vary through the day.
Weather notes from Hope Arkansas outline 30 percent rain chance in the northwest corner of the state and 60 percent elsewhere. A tropical low in south Texas moves northeast aided by a cold front. clouds rise and showers possible midweek. Highs near 90, lows in low 70s with crests of 68 to 74 in several towns.
HOT SPRINGS Ark AP Arkansas AFL CIO COPE endorsed only Amendment 55 raising salaries of constitutional officers. All Democratic candidates won COPE support except Rep Wilbur Mills whose desirability was questioned though the Mills endorsement passed strongly. Other amendments 57 4 and 56 were not endorsed. Democratic candidates Pryor Bumpers Alexander Mills Clinton Purcell also backed.
Private graveside services were held Saturday at 11 30 a m under the direction of Herndon Funeral Home in Rose Hill Cemetery for Glen E Graham Surviving are his daughter Mrs W B Milham 1323 Meadowbrook Lane Kalamazoo Mich 49008 and two grandsons Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a m in the Central Baptist Church of Prescott for Miss Hazel Cummings 60 who died in a Prescott Nursing Home Saturday August 24 Rev Arlis East officiated and burial was in Old Union Cemetery near Bodcaw with Herndon Funeral Home in charge Survivors include two sisters Miss Floy Cummings and Mrs W E Milam both of Prescott and a brother Clifton Cummings also of Prescott.
All Around Town reports a joint American Legion meeting and a booster club gathering to organize football brochures. It notes new bank leadership at First National Bank of Hope and praises a Rambos concert, plus Saratoga School head M H Peebles begins his fortieth term and Doyle Shields joins Ralston Purina after training in St Louis.
Receipts 828 up from last week 849 with cattle market mixed. Slaughter cows mostly lower 1.50 to 2.50 and bulls down about 2. Feeder steers and heifers decline 4 to 7 with short bodied early maturing bulls hit hardest. Listings include prices for various weight ranges and replacement cow and cow calf pair values.
Nancy C H Witteg 28 one of 11 women whose ordinations in a Philadelphia slum church July 29 were invalidated spoke at St Peter's Episcopal Church Morristown. She called Episcopal rules inconsistent with the gospel and said the House of Bishops acted last. She will serve as a deacon for now and not perform Eucharist or absolutions.
Henderson State College will offer Communications, Methods in Elementary Physical Education, and Number Systems I in Hope this fall. Courses are part of 14 off campus offerings and include the Career Studies Program. Instructors include Dr. Ed Ryland, Bettye Wallace, and Dr. O D Daniel. Red River Vocational Technical School in Hope Ark began its ninth year on August 1 1974 with about 250 students from Arkansas Louisiana and Texas. An organizational meeting for night classes will be held at Technical School on Tuesday, September 3, at 7 p.m. Enrollments must reach ten students to offer a class. Courses include Air Conditioning, Welding, House Wiring, Industrial Electricity, Industrial Electronics, Secretariat Refresher, LP Gas Systems, Bookkeeping and Drafting, with more added or dropped based on interest.
