Burns Clemency Plea Denied by Georgia Prison Board
The Georgia State Prison Commission refused clemency for Robert Burns, Chicago publisher, serving a nineteen year term for a county chain gang robbery. The panel also did not recommend clemency for Alvin Merritt, sentenced to death for an attack in Atlanta, and for Homer Simpson, Cleveland Penny, and Malcolm Morrow, condemned to die for the C. A. Penny murder during a Georgia hold up. Receipts from Missouri boxing bouts in July more than doubled year over year.
