A new light tank Buh is expected soon to handle the T-34, with policy shifting toward greater firepower, mobility, and protection in a three-model family under development.
In Mississippi a renominated incumbent faced criticism over his Korea aid vote and defense record while Rep John Beil Williams, the other opposing congressman, was renominated easily. A runoff on September 12 will decide who succeeds retiring Rep Will M Whittington. With 129 of 135 precincts, Frank Smith led Oscar Wolfe 6,627 to 6,550, Lomax Lamb Jr. had 4,473.

The three day conference was sponsored by the university and regional firms including Arkansas Power and Light Southwestern Gas and Electric, Palmer newspaper chain, Reasor Hill Chemical, Arkansas Fertilizer, Mathieson Chemical, and First National Bank of Magnolia.
