Coney Island and Bailey's Beach as US social contrasts
Bruce Catton surveys Coney Island and Bailey's Beach as two American beach cultures. Coney stands for democracy in summer crowds, vivid diversity, and affordable sunlight, while Bailey's Beach offers exclusive privacy, strict membership, and elite social belonging. Both sell sun and sea but represent stark class differences, inviting politicians to weigh extremes.
