12-Cent Loan for Cotton Is Assured
President Roosevelt authorized a 12 cent a pound government loan to the Commodity Credit Corporation, raising the lending from 10 to 12 cents for cotton in low middling or better. Growers may borrow against their bales rather than sell, with regulations expected to follow last year’s 10 cent program. Officials said the loan is not price fixing, but could curb farm sales if prices dip, though private outlook hoped for about 13 cents or more after strike concerns pass.
