Ed McCorkle Named to Drouth Advisory Board in Arkansas
Ed McCorkle of Hope was named to the state drouth advisory committee while Hempstead county and district arrangements were outlined in Little Rock. Governor Farnell formed a nine man executive panel led by Harvey Couch to direct relief with county judges, farm agents, Red Cross, farmers, bankers and business leaders. The plan calls for county relief committees, emergency Red Cross funds, seed distribution, county surveys, fall and winter pasture planting, vegetable crops, freight-rate aid, and credit to finance next year’s crops. Judge John Sheffield will convene a meeting of county judges to organize locally. Red Cross staff will coordinate surveys and field work from Little Rock. Local chapters already mobilize, with national backing if needed. Arkansaw headquarters to open in Little Rock soon.
