Arkansas GOP-linked clash over American Party petitions
Walter Carruth of Lexa chairman of the American Party in Arkansas accuses a challenge to petition legality of being an obvious GOP ploy. Thomas A. Glaze of the Election Laws Institute says 10 000 signatures are obviously fraudulent. Carruth says Schmitz would draw anti Nixon voters and adds Climer is waging a vendetta against Bryant. Climer blames Bryant for review gaps and proposes a new election office within the secretary of state. Carruth concedes some bad signatures but notes they occur on any petition.

The Board of Education proposed the raise and funding from existing tax revenues, plus a state kindergarten program and more for the education of the handicapped. The department also recommended free high school textbooks.
