In Sicily near Siracusa divers report water logged hulks believed to be part of a large Athenian war fleet sunk in 413 B C. Miss Guthrie Named Miss Football of 1955 at Gala

New Mexico Couple Feted by Hope City Groups

A New Mexico couple, 2nd Lieut Bill Cutter and his wife, were guest of honor in Hope. Duffie Booth of the Hope Chamber Tourist committee and Patrolman Carl Wayne Burke arranged a tour with free car service from Kelly Walton’s, a watermelon, and hospitality from the Lions Club and local hosts. The couple, on furlough from Ft. Knox, toured Diamond Cafe and was photographed by the Hope Star.

Sales Increase in Dept Stores in Eight Fed District

The St. Louis Federal Reserve reports department store sales in the Eight Federal Reserve District rose last week from the year earlier period but slower than the prior two weeks. Little Rock led with a 19 percent gain, district average up 3 percent, Louisville and nearby cities 3 percent, with St. Louis and Memphis up 2 percent.

Frisco Train Wreck Near Marked Tree Claims Five Lives

Four cars of a Frisco Kansas City Florida Special derailed near Marked Tree. Five people died, two were critically hurt, and twelve others had minor injuries. Among the dead are Edith Randall Rinder and her child Glen, plus Patricia Jane Crawford and a dining car chef. William Richards, 56, was also identified among the deceased.

Schmidt to File Divorce by Monday

Sacramento California airman Daniel Schmidt plans to file for divorce not later than Monday from Una Schmidt who remarried while he was a prisoner in Communist China. Attorney Howard P. Couple Injured in Collision at Local Intersection

A Little Rock couple suffered cuts and bruises in a two car crash at an intersection. They were taken to Arkansas Hospital in satisfactory condition. The other driver was Lionel Brooks of Little Rock. His car collided with the Harris vehicle, which struck a utility pole.
