Little Rock AP Donald W Henderson business manager of the Central Arkansas Building Trades Council says unemployment among affiliated unions runs about 12 to 15 percent. He blames Nixon’s 75 percent cutback in federal construction projects as an anti inflation move. He notes about 60 to 70 percent of the council’s work is federally financed. Federal figures deem unemployment under 3 percent healthy.
The White House says it is too early to know if President Nixon will meet Soviet Premier Kosygin during the United Nations 25th anniversary ceremonies this fall. Invitations have gone out to all U.N. member nations, with both sides gating possible talks. No Kremlin representative has indicated who will attend.
The FAA asked airport operators to ban sale of knives imitation weapons and similar items at terminals to prevent their use by hijackers. A lava flow crossed Chain of Craters road in Hawaii's Volcanoes National Park igniting a large brush fire near the Naulu forest. Park officials failed to stop the advancing lava with dirt dikes built by bulldozers, though earlier weeks saw success with a similar flow. Firefighters fought through the night to shield the forest reserve home to unique native trees, as Chief Ranger Arthur Huitt noted the Aloi Alaee crater area feeding multiple lava streams.
The House voted 289 to 114 to override President Nixon's veto of a 4.4 billion Education Office appropriation. He pledged to be a working governor and cited 16 years of political experience. He criticized rivals for adopting his platform and urged party unity for November victory.

The court remanded for action consistent with its opinion and ordered removal of suspensions and directives affecting SURE members and instructors tied to the group.
LITTLE ROCK AP John Pagan research assistant in Atty Gen Joe Purcell's campaign for governor and Thursday that a twin engine issue forced an overnight stop at Conway Arkansas. He said the incident delayed him from returning to the campaign trail and noted no injuries.
