Cool Canadian Air Sends Warmth Across U S

A cool Canadian air mass spread over the Great Lakes and into the Ohio and Mississippi Valleys, but the warm humid conditions persisted in much of the South. Temperatures ranged from the 50s to 100s in various regions, with a record low of 47 in Milwaukee on August 14. In California and the Southwest, highs reached 117 in Needles and Blythe. In Louisiana, Baton Rouge welcomed a son born on Tuesday August 13 to Mr and Mrs A A Smith of Hope and Mn, and Mrs Corbett Jackson of Lewisville.
