Public Plea for Student Loans to Hit Bankers
Washington AP reports the Nixon administration plans a public plea to bankers to continue lending to college students despite Congress not reviving a government backed program. The effort aims to push for swift loan legislation when Congress returns Sept 3. Senate has approved raising the government guaranteed loan interest ceiling to 10 percent retroactive to Aug 15, with about 220,000 students at risk of losing loans if not raised. A Senate amendment bars banks from requiring an account, complicating lending practices.
