Arkansas Faces Federal Cutoff of Unemployables Relief
LITTLE ROCK The State Public Welfare Commission will hold a special meeting Tuesday after messages from Senator Joe T. Robinson and Arkansas representatives in Washington warned that federal relief to unemployables will end August 10 with no Arkansas exemption. Governor Futrell urged continued administration of direct relief and expressed hope the government will heed the facts. OW R Dyess of FERA and WPA is in St Louis for a conference and will return Wednesday. Arkansas has 16.0 percent unemployables with a relief fund of 148000 dollars. Futrell reiterated Arkansas will provide every available dollar but cannot take over all relief immediately. He noted reports of moves to oust Welfare Commissioner Roy Prewitt but said that will not affect federal relief continuation.
