Self-destruct idea apparently dropped

Little Rock attorney John Gill helped draft an amendment to HB 3 to remove the self-destruct feature from a bill extending unemployment insurance for local government employees. The amendment would let the state keep the program if federal funds remain available or if Congress renews the federal mandate, with the aim of avoiding the local tax burden. The House adopted the change, the Senate has not amended, and officials note six months of federal funding remain before transition.
