The government plans to plant shelterbelts totaling 6,000 more miles this year. About 84 million trees cover 14,000 farms in strips 115 feet wide, 7,000 miles long in a 100 mile wide north south zone. Shelterbelts are short strips along farms to deflect damaging winds, save soil and moisture, with farmers contributing land and labor while relief crews plant and maintain the trees.

Miss Marguerite Long returned home Friday from a visit with relatives in Louisiana. Iris Hampton and Grace Wortham spent Thursday in Hope. Miss Nilladine Collins returned Saturday from Louisiana where she has been visiting her aunt and uncle.
