In Banville Kentucky two journalists Jack Durham and Wesley Carty were released after Police Judge Jay W. Harlan ended the contempt inquiry. The judge had jailed them or fined them daily since July 24 for refusing to answer questions about Danville's hanging in effigy. The inquiry was halted after two other suspects pled guilty and the court dismissed the reporters, who stood by their pledge to protect newspaper confidence. Publisher Vernon Richardson noted public sentiment favored the reporters though some backed the judge.
The Special Master of the District Court of the United States for the Texarkana Division of Arkansas announces a sale on August 25, 1934, at the Hempstead County Courthouse to satisfy a judgment in the Buckeye Cotton Oil Company v Robins estate case.
