Father Reunites With Son After Ten Years Sealed Shelter

A father learned his son, once a college student rewarded with a Ford for good grades, had vanished about ten years earlier. The son, Makushak, spoke from a windowless cell behind a partition, refusing to come out and describing a life of isolation. Police broke through a wall to access the room as Makushak described his days of sleep, meditation, and limited social contact before being placed in psychiatric observation.

Hempstead Scout Exposition Set for May 2

The Hempstead District scout committee reviewed arrangements and ticket sales at the regular monthly meeting. They reported everything shaping up satisfactorily and agreed the May 2 stout exposition will be the greatest stout show in the area, per district chairman Clifford Franks.

Bolt of lightning dents Camdon cigar in leap

A bolt of lightning struck Camden yesterday knocking a cigar from Jack Hendricks mouth. He was not injured. The incident occurred on April 27 near Camden and witnesses reported the sudden flash. Hendricks remained unharmed as bystanders checked for damage.

Warns Ticks Often Attack in Spring

County Agent Oliver L. Adams notes lone star ticks are the common wood tick. Adults are light tan with a white back spot and peak in spring. seed ticks appear in July and yearling ticks in late summer and fall. He prescribes spraying livestock biweekly with DDT and rotenone mixes, warns thorough wetting including between legs, and urges pasture clearing to reduce tick numbers.

Arkansas groups form advisory committee for soil conservation

Here and There in Arkansas reports the appointment of an advisory committee to work with the Arkansas Resources and Development Commission on soil conservation. The lineup includes Dean Lippert, S Ellis, Hollis Williams, John Ly Wright, Fred H Lang, and J Marion Adams. In Fayetteville, Aubrey Turner was elected president of the University of Arkansas Associated Students, defeating Ross Pritchard and William Wall. Turner represents the independent party and Wall urged votes for Pritchard.

Red Headless Rooster Dies After Weeklong Saga

Rushville Indiana reports the headless Hoosier rooster known as Red has died. Veterinarian Dr James Mull cared for the Rhode Island bird after it lost its head on Monday. The rooster was described as not looking good at a 10 pm feeding.
