U S Army warns of German unrest over ration cuts
Frankfurt April 27 A U S Army report warns subversive elements in Germany may exploit job unrest from ration cuts to spark widespread disorder. It says such turmoil could require a larger occupation force and longer presence though no disorders have yet occurred in the American zone. The report cites McNarney and Clay on the risk and notes cuts lower coal and machinery output, raising unemployment and crime. Guards form a constabulary under Harmon as troops redeploy and patrols move through the countryside.

Jazz in Rome Thrives as Italian Band Gains Fame
In Rome five of seven players are students at Roma University as the Gi’s Molian band rises after Fascist jazz bans. Led by Aldo Letteri, the sextet improvises on standards with an American-influenced sound. They perform for radio and at Red Cross clubs, aiming to teach Italians to enjoy jazz. Meanwhile in Pine Bluff Arkansas the Arkansas Junior Chamber convention opens with over 200 members and a banquet speaker, Rev. Paul V. Gallawey.
