In 1955 travel serving businesses provided jobs for 93 300 Arkansans. This represents 7.8 percent of nonfarm employment. Fully 80 percent of visitors came by automobile. This was over nine million persons in 1956. They comprise 24 percent of the traffic volume on Arkansas highways.
