Russians seize Stettin and push toward Berlin
London reports Marshal Rokossovsky's Second White Russian Army captured the port of Stettin on the Oder estuary. Soviet forces clash in central Berlin while others reach within 14.5 miles of American lines on the west bank of the Elbe. Stettin, a major port near Berlin, is described as 70 miles northeast of the city with 383,000 residents. Moscow says Russians advanced 19 miles beyond the river.
