Winthrop Rockefeller completed four stops of a statewide airplane tour aimed at boosting Republican prospects in Arkansas. The tour included Fayetteville and Searcy with more planned, as Rockefeller had previously kept his gubernatorial ambitions under consideration before ruling himself out as a candidate.

Washington AP Elizabeth Gurley Flynn failed to attend her passport revocation hearing at the State Department. The session proceeded with lawyer Joseph Forer representing Flynn identified as national chairman of the Communist party. The case tests new rules denying passports to Communists and the suspect’s access to evidence. Flynn, 71, could appeal to the Board of Passport Appeals if the ruling goes against her. The regulations, effective Jan 2, follow Supreme Court upholding parts of the Subversive Activities Control Act. Henry Clay in 1812 urged Canada’s capture by Kentucky militia.

Mrs Mary Lou Henson a 29 year old housewife faces a Craighead Circuit Court trial on second degree murder charges for the New Year Eve 1960 death of her 19 month old stepdaughter Christine. Two jurors were selected on opening day after her initial January trial ended in a hung jury. The state contends the child died from a ruptured liver due to blows by the defendant, while she claims the child fell from a chair and stairs.
George B. Mathis a 49 year old Camden florist filed Tuesday as a candidate for state senator from the lath District. The post is also being sought by Rep. B L Mosley of Camden. The incumbent Sen Melvin Chambers of Magnolia is retiring under an agreement trading the Senate seat between Ouachita and Columbia counties each four years.
PRATTSVILLE Ark AP 1 plans for Rep W S Stephens Grant County 2000 acre farm to host five buffalo and release them with large herds of Black Angus to breed a hybrid cattle called cattaroes. He envisions novelty value while his father calls the meat good. Stephens already released pheasants and wild turkeys and plans to add four black bears for exhibit on the Sabine River bottom lands near his farm in south central Arkansas. He bought the buffaloes from a rancher near Oklahoma City.
Camden Arkansas voters approved a $100,000 bond issue to cover the city's share of building a new expressway linking U S Highway 61. Unofficial returns showed 1,348 votes for the one mill measure and 236 against. The funds will pay the city's portion of the expressway cost.
