The Masonic Grand Lodge of Arkansas sponsors a mobile Blood Bank unit touring the state to supply powdered plasma to local physicians and support armed forces. Hope and Hempstead County are asked to cooperate for the May 4 visit.
Piney Grove School near Emmet on Old 67 was blown from its blocks in Saturday night’s storm and will be closed until further notice. Superintendent Elbert O’Steen announced insurance partly covers repairs. nearby Albert Hamilton residence roof and porch were damaged and timber in the area suffered extensive damage.
In Raton New Mexico a brass dog tag on a setter drew attention amid wartime metal shortages. Since 1842 all Raton tags have been fiber made, and dog catchers note a rare dog tag counterfeiting case in recent memory. Romania is named as Europe's chief oil producer after the Soviet Union.
Allied forces advanced on three Hollandia airfields in 350 square miles of Dutch New Guinea amid mud and limited Japanese resistance. Fifth Air Force planes prepared to use a fourth airfield near Aitape as the push linked Hollandia to surrounding sites with naval gunfire and aerial support.
In Washington on April 25 Republicans in the House opposed an administration bill to raise the public debt limit from 210 billion to 260 billion dollars. Rep. Knutson urged a lower ceiling likely around 240 billion, arguing the administration would reach any set limit. President Roosevelt’s budget forecast projected debt near 258 billion by June 30, 1945.
Unidentified white man found April 22 about eight miles south of Malvern on Highway 9 partially buried in a ditch nude. Described as about 40 years old, 510, 140 45, with dark greying hair and three missing upper left teeth. Believed to have been held about a month. State police request any information.
Mrs. L. Bundy, daughter of Mrs. Bell Fooshee Black and the late Newt Fooshee, announces her candidacy for Hempstead County treasurer. A Hope resident, she is active in First Methodist Church, Hope PTA, Red Cross leadership, and county service roles including canning kitchens, sewing supervision, and Home Nursing. Bundy notes support from friends in Hope and Hempstead County, and highlights family service members including a son at Anzio Beachhead.
Washington April 25 Senator Brewster joined with Senator Bailey to back a work or fight bill. It would freeze men 18 to 45 in essential jobs with draft board approval for job changes and empower selective service to conscript 4 F registrants into war essential work when needed. The plan aims to curb labor hoarding and move workers to war industries.
Whitfield Lodge No. 239 of the Masons will confer a master's degree at 7:30 tonight in the Masonic hall. The event marks the last meeting with Worshipful Master Olin Lewis presiding before his departure to the armed forces. a full attendance is requested.
A mobile Blood Bank Unit sponsored by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Arkansas will stop in Hope on Thursday May 4 as part of a statewide tour. Donations received include 70 pints in Jonesboro 40 pints in Wynne and 60 to 70 pints in Blytheville. Local groups must recruit donors select a site and schedule bleeding times with cot provisions for donors and helpers. Further local plans will be announced by the Hope Masonic lodge.

Others announced but have not filed fees include Joe C Booker Mrs Isabelle Onstead and Mrs Leon Bundy. Ray McDowell withdrew. Cecil Weaver and J P Pinkey Byers listed for circuit clerk. Blood letting or capping noted as ancient medical practice.
Lt Julian E Spiller Hope flyer missing since Jan 29 over Europe is now a German prisoner of war per Red Cross. Wife Helen, son, and parents Ernest and Mrs Spillers of South Walne St are notified. Spiller left bomber by parachute and was seen by accompanying crews. His brother Lt Edward Spillers also serves in the air corps.
Gov. John W. Bricker of Ohio told reporters he is a candidate for president and will continue his campaign. Campaign manager Rey D. Moore claimed Bricker could win about 257 delegates and foresees no first ballot nomination at the June convention.
Well over 1,000 American bombers and fighters attacked three German air fields in France for the 11th day of the great aerial offensive. RAF raids hit Munich and Karlsruhe while U S forces targeted Dornier and Messerschmitt plants in southern Germany and railway depots north of Paris.
Britain imposes an indefinite travel ban except for urgent national business. Berlin predicts invasion could come at any moment and German forces prepare to meet the assault. Reports outline Allied air strikes, German defenses, and far flung troop dispositions on the Atlantic coast and across occupied Europe.
Tech. Sgt. Thomas P. Mc Lean of Royal Oak Michigan repaired an Italian civilian radio receiver and within an hour six more natives brought broken sets. He did the work to foster better relations but asked neighbors not to publicize it.
London April 25 The cost of living in Britain now sits 29 percent above its pre war level and continues to rise. Government stabilization costs last year totaled 760 million dollars. Sir John Anderson notes personal incomes rose by 2.4 billion dollars since 1942 with over half of 1943 income taxed away. National savings and continued expenditures kept prices high.
Sir John tells the house that 50 percent this year is troubling and that the cost of living rising 25 to 30 percent above pre war is not sacrosanct. He notes wage rates have risen about 11 percent more than living costs to date and cites large wartime asset draws and overseas liabilities.
