PSC Right to Rule Pay TV Challenged
A group of Arkansas theater owners challenged the Public Service Commission’s authority over pay television. They asked the PSC to dismiss Midwest Video Corp’s petition and to have Southwestern Bell furnish facilities for a Little Rock pay system. They contended pay television is not a public utility and should fall under FCC jurisdiction. The group includes Independent Theater Owners of Arkansas Inc United Theaters Corp and Rowley United Theaters Inc. A hearing is set for May 8.

ALEXANDRIA Louisiana AP Chaude Kirkpatrick director of the Louisiana Department of Public Works urged immediate start of a five year program to develop the Red River for navigation bank stabilization flood control recreation and pollution abatement from Denison Dam Texas to the Atchafalaya. He noted four Corps of Engineers districts would be involved and said the federal government should back such programs. A second public hearing on Red River Valley development near Fulton Arkansas is planned Friday in Shreveport.

Royal Service program and Legion Auxiliary meet in Prescott
The Prescott First Baptist Church WMS held a Royal Service program with seventeen members, featuring the Near East theme and a closing prayer. The American Legion Auxiliary met at Mrs. Teeter’s home with thirteen members, electing Girls State nominees and hearing reports. Local residents spent weekends visiting relatives in Hot Springs, Shreveport, Camden, Longview, Warren, Malvern, and Texarkana.
