You Can Still Plant Garden
Late spring is not too late to start a backyard garden. The U S Department of Agriculture classifies vegetables as suitable for late spring planting. Transplanting tomatoes requires keeping soil on roots, water holes before planting, and shielding from sun to prevent wilting. Warmth is needed in the South and Southwest. green beans can grow through winter and spring. Beets are adaptable and heat and cold resistant but dislike freezing. space seeds thinly and plant 2 to 3 inches apart after thinning. Remember three musts for a garden: sun, light competition from large trees, and avoid root damage.
