White House figures to testify in ITT inquiry
Two witnesses tied to the White House were set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on the Kreindienst ITT ties. Richard Ramsden and Jack Gleason, both linked to White House activity, could shape the final week of hearings. The panel debates Flanigan’s role as Democrats seek to delay Kreindienst’s attorney general nomination. Gleason’s San Diego convention role and ITT funding questions loom as Merriam testified about White House requests for convention site and financial commitments.

Candidates Push to End Bombings in Vietnam Debate
Sen. Edmund S. Muskie says he will introduce a sense of the Senate resolution calling for an immediate halt to all U.S. bombing of North Vietnam. Sen. George McGovern calls Nixon’s orders to bomb Hanoi and Haiphong dangerous, while Sen. Hubert Humphrey calls it very dangerous and several others offer cautious support or praise. Muskie’s proposal would be nonbinding, expressing Senate will rather than directing the President. McGovern notes the irony of four years earlier vowing to end the war while now directing air force actions.

Charges of Exam Cheating Not Properly Investigated
Lt Earl M Bricker III says the Army and Congress failed to probe charges that officers cheated on secret exams qualifying them to command nuclear missile units. The case began at Homestead Air Force Base Florida with Navy men and later tied to air defenses along the Southern border amid a House subcommittee probe. Bricker argues national security could be endangered if unqualified officers misreact in a crisis.
