In Calumet Oklahoma a wild natural gas well spewed about four million cubic feet over more than two days before being capped on Wednesday. Early estimates put leakage at two million cubic feet per day prompting evacuation of twenty six residents who have since returned home.

Sale of Farm by U.S. to Be Appealed

DERMOTT Ark AP Der mot t rice farmer James Weir filed notice in Federal District Court at St Louis Wednesday that he intends to appeal an order upholding the sale of his 994 acre Chicot County farm. Weir’s farm was sold April 17 1962 to satisfy federal liens for overplanting of crop allot ments. The sale order was upheld by federal Judge J Smithe Henley after Weir contended it was improperly conducted. Weir remains on the farm though its purchasers have asked for a court order ejecting him from the property.

Woman Burns to Death at Spa in Hot Springs

Mrs. Annie Mae Peppers, 50, of Hot Springs, burned to death when her apartment caught fire Wednesday night. Police said her body was found on a daybed after the blaze was extinguished. her husband was not home at the time.
