Mays Urges Unity in Black and White Destiny on Arkansas Campus

Dr. Benjamin Mays, 82, former Morehouse College president, spoke during Black Emphasis Week at an Arkansas campus urging an end to bitterness and violence. He said the destiny of Black and white people is one and that America cannot exist without Black contributions. He cautioned against blaming slavery and segregation and stressed brotherhood as a moral imperative.

Beech Street Pastor Leads WIN Clinic in Hope

The Rev Jim Adams of Beech Street Baptist Texarkana will head a Witness Involvement Now clinic at First Baptist Hope to train adults in sharing faith. Clinics run April 18 to 21 at 7 p.m. with Steve Landers guiding WOW for junior and senior high youth and music study for children.

Convicted murderer weds chief witness in Oklahoma

In Newkirk Oklahoma Richard Lawrence Hager 28 married Connie Sue Vaughn 21 the state chief witness against him ten minutes before his death sentence was announced. Judge Lowell Doggett scheduled execution for June 27 in the case tied to the September murder of Anthony Corley 19. Vaughn who is pregnant testified claiming Hager admitted the shooting.

Carter to unveil bitter energy medicine with taxes and credits

President Carter plans a tough energy package featuring a standby gas tax up to 50 cents a gallon, rebates for fuel efficient cars, higher natural gas and oil prices, and credits for insulation and solar energy.
