State Selective Service Director Col. Hensel I. Winters announced 495 Arkansans will be drafted this month and 300 more will be called for instruction in May. Local draft boards set quotas for induction and call units.
LITTLE ROCK Foregasin Brothers Co of Fort Smith was the apparent low bidder for paving work at the Armory site for a new Air National Guard unit. Bids totaling over one million dollars were opened. Forsgsen Brothers bid 147 526 for taxiways parking aprons and roads. Five bids were submitted. remaining bids cover buildings a hanger a warehouse and a motor service shop.
Hogs active and uneven weights with gains 14 to 35 higher than yesterday's averages. Cattle and calves show steady to firm tendencies with feeders and cows moving as buyers pause. Sheep and poultry prices mix, with fat market lines steady to higher and wholesale egg and butter quotes holding near prior levels. New York cotton futures end higher after rain relief and buyout by funds.

Atty Gen Tom Gentry says the State Electric Medical Board has refused jurisdiction in the Schirmer case and he will seek to bring the issue to court. He aims to prove the clinic operator obtained his eclectic medical license by fraud. The board, due to hear charges Monday, recessed pending an Arkansas Supreme Court ruling on publication of the investigation.
Senate investigators pressed for a written statement from Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy detailing charges that the Army attempted to blackmail him to halt his Communist probe. Army officials agreed to furnish a detailed counter statement, witness lists, and synopses after lengthy talks with the subcommittee.
