Russia Aids Cuba Economically Through Soviet Technicians
Soviet technicians are being sent to Cuban towns to revitalize the economy as Havana retools production to suit Soviet and East European needs. The move follows Castro's admission that his economic policies failed and comes under a bilateral cooperation pact effective 1971 to 1975. Estimates of Soviet assistance run 380 to 500 million dollars annually, with overall aid vastly surpassing U.S. programs for Latin America.

Racial School Merger Debate and Historic Taxicab Fares Rising
The piece notes fears that merging black and white schools may cost black administrators their jobs while arguing that balanced enrollment will not occur while white schools stay open. It cites Dr. Henry Ponder of Alabama A&M, two failed court challenges to block new white campuses, and a 1968 ruling about dismantling the dual system but not halting a downtown UT branch near Tennessee State. It also covers an inflation alert on wages and prices, including New York cab fare hikes from restricted service, and a pending steel workers contract due August 1, alongside a historical note: two presidential candidates with the largest votes in their elections were Tilden in 1876 and Cleveland in 1888.
