Thelma Davis of Griffin California urged local teachers and districts to view the measure as general aid for state departments of education.
The Trans-Mississippi Department of the Sons of Confederate Veterans unveiled the eight foot tall Texas Monument at Pea Ridge Arkansas. The monument is crafted from Texas red granite and commemorates the Civil War Battle of Pea Ridge.
Girl Scouts in Hope announce Day Camp to run May 21 to June 4 at Dyke Springs site two and a half miles east on Rocky Mound Road. Dean Murphy provides bus transportation. Camp runs 8 30 a m to 3 39 p m for five days with staff applications and training available from Mrs. McElroy.
Bishop Paul Galloway will visit Washington on April 14. A communion service at the Methodist Church is set for 10 a.m. conducted by Reverend Mr. Galloway, announced by Pastor Joe Jones. The public is invited.

Fall 57 of Fort Smith Ester Perkins 63 Ona Noe 83 Oliver Coleman 60 H J Gwatney 82 Ida Lee Owens 81 all of Conway. Others include Jake Smith Raper 42 of Mountain Home fatally struck by a tree while bulldozing in Baxter County and David Ray Ricketts 19 of Jasper killed when his pickup left Arkansas 74 near Jasper and overturned.
In April observed as Child Welfare month the American Legion Post Unit 12 Auxiliary hosts guest speaker Mrs Helen Van Steenwyk child welfare director. The meeting takes place Tuesday April 13 at the home of Mrs E P O Neal the local unit child welfare chairwoman.
Former President Truman denounced Martin Luther King Jr as a troublemaker during a morning walk. He also called the Ku Klux Klan a no good outfit and said it should be legislated out of existence. Truman said the Selma to Montgomery march was silly and accomplished nothing.

A six state tornado on Palm Sunday left at least 214 dead and thousands injured or missing. Indiana reported 109 deaths, Ohio 59, Michigan 36, Illinois seven, Wisconsin three, with Iowa damaged but no fatalities. Weather Bureau noted 37 twisters and massive property losses as power outages and blocked highways hindered relief. The disaster was the worst since 1925, when 689 died in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.
U S District Judge J Smith Henley ordered desegregation of the state capitol cafeteria run by Capitol Club Inc ruling it functioned as a public facility and excluded Negroes since its organization last summer The cafeteria has been closed since March 22 after police ejected racial demonstrators and no reopening date was set
