Star adds weekly feature takes on AP Sports Almanac

The Star announces a new weekly feature titled Makin Things starting April 13 with two editions that week and each Monday thereafter. It will run under a partnership with Register & Tribune Syndicate and include 250 copies of the 1977 AP Sports Almanac. The feature is by Ed and Stevie Baldwin, known from Tulsa World and Enid Morning News. Also notes the do it yourself market growth and upcoming television projects. Train slams into oil truck near Talon crossroad in Oklahoma

A westbound Frisco freight hitting an oil tanker at a private crossing in Terlton Oklahoma injured three people and caused about 2 million dollars in damage. Firefighters from multiple towns battled a spreading oil fire as 17 freight cars and three engines derailed.

City Board Opens Under New Manager John Swift

The Hope City Board of Directors meets Tuesday night with new city manager John Swift. They will consider a contract with the Hope Housing Authority to secure right-of-way for the wastewater project, award work on Hervey Street and Avenue B, set just compensation for Highway 174 right-of-way, and discuss employee health insurance and meeting date ordnance. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Housing survey planned by Hope Housing Authority

The Housing Authority of Hope will conduct a housing survey on elderly rentals. A project is planned at Sixth and Laurel Streets and residents 62 or older who can pay 25 percent of income for rent may visit the Housing Office at 728 Texas Street to fill out a non binding form.

Man shoots dog and self from church pulpit

Ford Dawson 52 of Gulfport fired a shot in the First Baptist Church during Easter services then killed his dog and himself on live television. He spoke briefly from the pulpit before shooting and later died after brain surgery. the dog survived.

Two jailed in trailer theft in Hempstead County

Hershel Edward Laminack and Billy Von Williams of Morehouse Missouri are jailed in Hempstead County for theft of two horses a horse trailer three saddles two bridles and two horse blankets. A horse and trailer were recovered from Eddie Fry after a Dec 3 1976 theft. Arrests were made in Sikeston Missouri and the recovered property returned to Hempstead County. Police say the case remains under investigation.

The Hope Board of Education will hold a regular monthly meeting in the administration building at 7 p.m. Items include officer elections, student expulsions, and Fulton school matters. An executive session will discuss bus driver employment and personnel for 1977 78.

Two Soviet ships faced enforcement action off the U S coast as the Taras Shevchenko docked at Boston with a crew of 93 after exceeding river herring quotas.
