The Little Rock School Board voted to accept a seven-firm bid for selling 2.5 million in construction bonds at an effective rate of 5.9917 percent. Five bids were submitted. bonds were authorized in the March 1969 school election and had not sold earlier due to high rates and state limits.
Washington reporting that the Agriculture Department and the Surgeon General’s Office are reviewing a 60 year old meat inspection policy that allows beef processors to trim out cancer eye and similar tumors and sell the rest. The move follows public concern after an Associated Press report showing millions of pounds of beef from infected cattle entering markets. Rep. John S. Monagan disclosed the government’s decision to review, contrasting poultry rules which require complete destruction of affected birds. Experts note tumors in cattle pose less threat than in chickens where cancer viruses can spread.

He remains jailed on a $10,000 bond.
Teachers in Minneapolis walk out defying no strike law as 1800 members join the action and about half of the rival union participate. Los Angeles votes to strike over a 6 percent raise while Butte Muskogee and ongoing desegregation disputes spark walkouts.
Three American military aircraft crashes in Asia leave nine dead and 30 injured. An RF4 jet from Udorn Air Base in Thailand crashed into barracks after an antiaircraft hit over Laos, with three Americans killed and 30 wounded. An Air America C180 bound for Laos wrecked on a mountain, killing six crew. A U.S. Navy jet in Okinawa went down with the pilot missing.
Lawrence E. Walsh of the ABA urged revising how nominees are judged. He suggested showing how a candidate compares with peers in the same circuit while keeping current standards. Walsh rejected evaluating political or ideological attributes.

Hugh R. Kincaid of Fayetteville announced Thursday his campaign for the Arkansas legislature from Washington County. The 35 year old former Fayetteville city attorney plans to pursue a seat in the House.
Little Rock Veterans Administration Hospital received 214000 of a 15 million VA allocation for April May and June. Hospital director K. J. O'Brien said the funds will be used for dental care and drugs among other purposes.
