Arkansas Woman To Be Executed Delayed To May 31
A Hot Springs Arkansas native Leslie Douglas Ashley and Carolyn Lima were granted a 45 day stay of execution by Gov. John Connally in Texas. The delay follows a Texas Pardons Board recommendation and an appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals to be heard May 9. Lima, 20, would be the first woman legally executed in Texas in over a century. Ashley, 24, is described as a female impersonator. They were slated to die April 16 for the murder of Fredtones, a Houston real estate man, at his office on Feb. 6, 1961 after a sex party. A stay was granted four hours before their March 29 scheduled execution.
