Dining Car Cook to Face Murder Charge
Albany Oregon April 7 The knife slaying of a Virginia bride lay in a lower berth of the West Coast Limited on January 23 sparked a murder charge today against Robert J Folkes a 20 year old dining car cook from Los Angeles. Folkes is accused of slaying Mrs Martha Virginia Davies aboard the speeding train between Oregon and California. Passengers heard a scream and a protest but no weapon was found and investigators said motive was unclear. Folkes was arrested in Los Angeles days later. Linn County Oregon District Attorney Harlow Weintick said Folkes made several oral confessions but the statements were not officially disclosed.
