Rotary club draw targets absent members in mock goat tale

Prescott Leads New Arkansas Football District Plan

At a Prescott meeting a new high school football playoff system was adopted, dropping the Big 16 and retaining District 7 as the strongest in Arkansas. The reclassification creates AA A and B divisions with all district games required and Hope scheduled for four. District 7 comprises Miller Laatch Layette Columbia Calhoun Union Ouachita Dallas Pike Howard Sevier Hempstead Nevada Little River counties. Class AA includes El Dorado Camden Hope Texarkana Smackover Fordyce. Class A lists Arkadelphia Magnolia Nashville Prescott Gordon De Queen Horatio. Class B covers Fairview Camden Ashdown Foreman Murfreesboro Dierks Norphlet Mineral Springs Amity Bearden.

Union files 30 day strike notice over Western Union

The Commercial Telegraphers Union AFL files a 30 day strike notice on behalf of 50,000 Western Union telegraph workers. CTU president Jesse A. Payne sends copies to President Truman, the Labor Department, the National Labor Relations Board, and the company, citing a complete collapse of collective bargaining.

Demands for Miner Safety Lead to Congressional Aid Promise

Lewis urged stronger miner safety measures before a House Labor subcommittee. The UMW president testified for six hours but lawmakers did not back his call for President Truman to fire Secretary Krug. Truman defended Krug as an efficient public official and showed no inclination to remove him.
