Rubber Curtailment to Be Investigated By Senate Panel
Washington April 4 A joint order from the Rubber Administration and the Agriculture Department prompts a Senate investigation into whether synthetic rubber has reached a stage to safely reduce natural supply. Senator Downey says 30 000 of 33 000 acres leased for Guayule will be returned for food crops, leaving 3 000 non irrigated and 35 000 irrigated acres, with potential further losses to owners. The committee notes the Guayule program aimed for 208 000 acres and questions if production on added land is unnecessary if synthetic rubber is perfected.
