Unanimous ruling on airport function and wrongful death suit

The Sebastian Circuit Court affirmed that municipal airport operations are governmental, dismissing Anna Kibksty’s suit over her husband Jason Kirksey’s fatal explosion. The case cited the city’s duty to maintain safe premises and proper protections, with further probate decisions on the Dunnings will and a separate appeal on a rental agency’s liability for overtime parking tickets. The Supreme Court split on the will issue and overturned a Chancery Court ruling in the rental case, holding the agency not responsible for fines issued to renters.

Little Chance for Civil Rights Issue in Congress

James Marlow Associated Press analyst notes slim odds for civil rights legislation this year. Southerners oppose new laws. House committee supports a two year study commission with subpoena power, while Senate opposition and a potential southern filibuster loom. The plan would shift voting-interference cases to federal action, reducing reliance on juries.
