Hood River County Auto Club Forms Support for Columbia River Highway

A new Hood River County Automobile Association is formed to promote highway improvements and proper markings. The group will affiliate with smaller clubs, seek supportive legislation, and pursue a river highway from Hood River Valley to the Sandy River, with a government road building plan and fundraising efforts ongoing.

Minneapolis Man Buys Forty Acre Fruit Tract

Clayton W. Hooker of Minneapolis purchased the Watt and Jordan forty acre tract in Oak Grove district. Half the land is orchard, the rest will be set to fruit. Hooker, general agent for Northwestern National Life, will move his family to the valley after visiting other locations. A new concrete pavement on First Avenue opened last week, costing about 8800, built by W. F. Aldred Company, proving durable for heavy and light traffic.

Deserted Wife Seeks Arrest of Husband Vaunortruck

A young woman from The Dalles reports abandonment by her husband Roy Vaunortruck a 22 year old hotel porter leaving her penniless and unable to work. Sheriff Levi Chrisman filed an arrest warrant and authorities in Hood River were alerted to locate Vaunortruck amid suspected associations with an underworld contact.

Strawberry season opens amid heavy demand

The strawberry season begins under favorable weather as supplies are limited and demand rises. The Davidson Frost Company anticipates a strong shipment pattern to Portland markets with plans for additional trips to Seattle, Spokane, Salt Lake, and eastern points.

Devlin and Wireburgh report strong demand for orchard lands with over 100000 dollars worth sold recently to eastern buyers. They note a five acre tract sold to A B Altmay er of New York City and a Columbia River overlook parcel sold for around 71000 to Colonel Carmellas Gardener of the Sixteenth Infantry. Gardener plans to build a bungalow and move his family there.

Elks Entertain Right Royally at Commercial Club

Elks members and guests from Hood River The Dalles and Port Townsend attended a late evening event at the Commercial Club. Mayor Eddie Wingate and District Attorney Fred Wikeon were among the 40 plus attendees. The program featured a wave-picture machine, a screen, and a musical opener by bred Wifeon.

Congregationalists Plan Riverside Church Edifice

Riverside Congregationalists approve plans for a new church building to be moved from the old structure. A building committee led by PM Moree with GR Coetner and 10. Binochor is formed to push work. About three fourths of funds are subscribed and the basement level will house the main hall and Sunday school spaces with seating for about 600.

Hood River Elke Social at The Dalles Lays Groundwork for Lodge
