A News survey finds little local enthusiasm for Roosevelt’s plan to form a new party. Interviewees doubt success of a third party and expect reform to come from within the GOP or the Democratic party. Some worry a split could aid Democrats and hurt Republicans.
Friends of Mike Inright push a name change after a fifteen foot skylight fall on a Sunday. He tried to reach Dr Brostus office for a pillow for a woman, slipped from the roof, tumbled through a skylight into Carl Plath’s prescription room, smashing bottles and injuring himself. He crawled out, roof rescue followed by Eriensts.
Fruit growers in Underwood and Hood launch the Underwood Water District with March president and Prof. Detwiller as treasurer. A rail depot, new road work, and expanded timber, milling, and fruit operations promise a boom as plans include a gravity water system from Moss Creek, river and rail connections, and large land tracts opened for buyers.
Captain E. W. Spencer adopts an innovation for a White Salmon Valley ranch. A woven wire fence encloses native deer pastures while a hot house supplies year round vegetables. A 18 kilowatt turbine powers two residences, a garage, and a stable as part of a $20,000 log bungalow project.
Next Sunday the Unitarian meeting shifts to the home of Mrs. Jeanne Miller two miles west of the city for morning service with a sermon. Transportation will be provided for those without means. A cordial invitation extends to all and transportation is available from the church at 10 a.m.
Heights clinched the league title by defeating The Pilea on Sunday, finishing first with White Salmon Hood River and The Dalles close behind. The Heights will receive a trophy donated by FE. A. Franz Company as Hart and Hall starred in victory and A Huntington drove in the decisive runs.
James Oliver recently arrived in the valley from Canada claims the coaster brake bike is the wildest on the range. A brake failure on Booth Hill sent him racing to a sharp road turn and a 40 foot fall on a hospital visit after being rushed from Parkdale station.

President W J Kerr spoke on country life and rural population distribution, stressing college extension and demonstration work. Superintendent L R Alderman highlighted industrial education in public schools and statewide industrial fairs benefiting 75,000 children. Shelley Morgan and family from Portland spent the weekend on their ranch.
Yakima growers' cooperative through General Manager J. Rotheins ends a contract with Athletic Pratt Distributors to handle the entire tonnage of its crop outside the Pacific Northwest. Atlantic Fruit Distributors serves as an intermediary, with Northwest and Pacific connections. The arrangement moves toward direct sales by cooperative agents to trade, per Robbins.
Children in the city will help lead the automobile parade at 10 am on the Fourth. Cars assemble at Cascade Avenue near State Street, parade east along the north side, with children in white joining between nine and ten. The route ends at Library Park for 11 oclock exercises. Committee leaders are J. J. Hellbrother, FP McCan, and PS Davidson, with nearly 100 autos expected and seven cups for prizes.
