Large Party Climbers Ascend Mt Hood Safely
A large party led by George and Wm Monroe and W Hardinger ascended Mount Hood from Govelock Inn. They reached Cooper's peak at sunrise and the summit at 9 28, with fog obscuring the Pacific. The descent completed in about two hours and twenty minutes. An amusing incident saw Callerat e Antoine drenched when they knocked a water pipe plug free.

A large crowd witnessed the ground breaking for a new Methodist church. Pastors Rev. J W Rigby Rev T B Ford Rev Frank Spaulding and Rev W C Gilmore spoke of the church's progress and struggles. Will Isenberg broke ground and cornerstone is planned by late August.

Newtown Post Office Established on Mt Hood Route
The Newtown post office, the Odell station on the Mt Hood railroad, will begin mail service July 1. A town site was platted and lots placed on the market. The post office is planned in the store of F. W. Atkins.
