Honey Grove residents urged to submit Tasting Spree recipe entries by next Tuesday June 26 at Centennial Headquarters. Entries must be at the church by 4 PM July 3 for judging. Food entries welcome without charge, event opens to the public at 6 PM with admission 1.00 for adults and 0.50 for children under 12.
As part of a large Centennial observance July 2 through July 7, an Old Fiddlers Contest begins at 2:00 PM at Crockett Park. A $50 first prize will go to the best fiddler with additional cash prizes for best performer under 16, best 80 plus contestant, and best Fannin County fiddler. Entrants should contact Dr. W. E. Poimboeuf Box 22 or call 378-2080. he is contest chairman.
The town imposes shaving and cosmetic permits from June 18 to July 8 as part of Centennial financing. Residents must wear the permit or face a $3 bond or jail. permits cost $1.50 and are sold at merchants or City Hall. Officials warn out of town visitors could escape fines with a bribe or trick.
The Allens Point Community Progress Club will meet Thursday evening June 21 at 7 30 in the Community Center. Members will plan participation in the Honey Grove Centennial Celebration and all in the community are urged to attend. Visitors are invited.
Honey Grove residents are invited to donate and display antiques and artifacts during Centennial Week at the David Graham Hall Foundation Museum. The exhibit will feature furniture quilts paintings photos books glassware kitchen wares tools guns clothing jewelry toys and more. Citizens may contact Bob M Lane Mrs D R Black Mrs R F Voger Mrs D E Shelton or Mrs Max Fowler to arrange items for display.
Parents may enroll preschoolers aged 3 to 6 who have not completed first grade in a playschool June 25 to 29 at the grade school library. Homemaking students run the program with supervision from 9 to 11 a.m. daily, featuring play, games, music, stories and crafts as part of child development study.
The Centennial Costume promenade will begin from City Hall on Monday July 2 at 10 00 a m Participants are urged to join in the event Awards will be given to first and second place winners
Band Director Mr. Terry Park announces key Honey Grove School Band dates. June 28 at 7 p.m. practice in the Band Hall. July 2 at 8 p.m. cake walk performance. July 5 at 6 p.m. rodeo parade. July 7 at 2 p.m. grand parade.
Honey Grove High School vocational agriculture teacher Charles Yarbrough and homemaking department head Mrs. Dixie Black were chosen as Outstanding Secondary Educators of America for 1973. Nominated by principals, they join a program honoring exceptional service in secondary education with possible awards and a place in the awards volume.
The Texas State Library and Honey Grove Memorial Library launch a Summer Reading Program for children aged 6 through 13. The first meeting is Wednesday June 27 at 7:20 p.m. in David Graham Hall Foundation Civic Center, conducted by Mrs. Tommie Fair and Mrs. Beverly Felts.
In a special meeting Monday morning, June 18, the Honey Grove City Commission named William E. Gandy as corporate counsel and W. E. Self as municipal judge. Self replaces Ron Smith, who has moved from the city.
The history of Honey Grove titled One Hundred Years prepared by the Yearbook Committee, chaired by Joe Huffer, will be on sale June 25 through 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily at Centennial Headquarters in the David Graham Hall Foundation Museum. Betty Shelton, sales chair, announces the 76 page book with pictures and text costs 5.00 per copy within the United States and 6.00 overseas. Printing is by News Publishing Co. in Honey Grove with Judy King of Paris authoring the text. A large committee assists in sales and promotion with representatives on duty at the headquarters next week.
The Equalization Board of the Honey Grove Independent School District will meet on Tuesday July 3, 1973 from 1 00 p m to 4 30 p m in the school tax office. Those wishing to appear to discuss property value should contact the tax office beforehand to arrange an appointment. Board members are T J Lochridge J B Mahler and Max Taylor.
The Signal Citizen designates next week as its Centennial Issue with features on Honey Grove's past and events planned for Centennial Week. Advertisers urged to submit copy early for the June 29 issue. additional copies priced at 10 cents.
City observes Youth Day on Tuesday ruins July 3 with contests and officials for the day as part of Honey Grove centennial events beginning July 27. Details to follow in Signal Citizen and on posters around the square.
