Vacation Bible School Registration At First Baptist

Registration day for Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church is Saturday June 20 starting at 10 30 a m for children nursery age through grade six. The program runs June 22 to June 26 with daily activities and meals followed by daily classes and faculty assignments for each grade. New residents can find the church at the corner of Hickory and 8th Streets and all community children are welcome.

Southwestern Bell seeks large increases in Texas local rates

Southwestern Bell asked the Public Utility Commission to approve local increases of 5.45 dollars per month for one party residence service and up to 14.40 dollars for one party business service. Business rates would rise to 27.25 dollars. Local rates comprise about 87 percent of a 469.8 million dollar overall request. The plan includes new measured local calling and preserves existing total call counts for current customers.

The 36th annual C R A Championship Rodeo sponsored by the Honey Grove Round Up Club runs July 2 3 and 4 at the arena 3 miles north of Honey Grove on Highway 100 with shows at 8 p.m. Books open June 30 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parade on July 2 at Crockett Park 6 p.m. Events include bull riding calf roping bull dogging steer roping barrel racing bareback and saddle bronc riding. The Honey Grove area notes heavy rain through May 1980 at 18.82 inches versus 10.98 in May 1980. Through June 16 1981 rainfall reached 27.45 inches, nearly equal to all of 1980. Continual rain disrupted wheat harvest and caused losses for many farmers while gardens and truck crops gained.
