Tornadoes Visited North Fannin County With Lofty Fears
A fast moving storm swept through north and northeast Fannin County last Wednesday night leaving residents frightened but unharmed. Two to four tornadoes were sighted as the National Weather Service issued warnings shortly after funnels appeared. Rain exceeded 2 inches in an hour while Honey Grove and Ladonia officers monitored the area with no funnel clouds seen near those towns.

Doyle wins county judgeship in tight runoff in Honey Grove
Jimmy Doyle, from Honey Grove, captured the Fannin County Judge seat in a close Democratic runoff over D G Casey Jones by 87 votes 1507 to 1420 as North Honey Grove swung the result. Doyle assumes office January 1 1987 with no Republican candidate in the race.

Pioneer Week Schedule Drives Big Sesquicentennial Celebration
The Pioneer Week Committee unveils an extensive nine day schedule with events for all ages. Highlights include gospel singing, rockin chair marathon with a 300 prize, history exhibits, crafts, rodeo, a street dance, parade, beards contest and wagon rides. Activities run Sunday June 29 through Saturday July 5 at Crockett Park and local venues.

Pioneer Week Calaboose Rules Prompt Jailing Threats
Honey Grove Sesquicentennial Pioneer Week runs June 29 to July 5 with a new rule requiring attendees to wear three articles of western attire or buy a $1 Pioneer Week Button. Violators could be jailed in a rusting calaboose and fed only water and Mayor Avery’s corn bread, until bailed out.
