First Baptist VBS Kick-off Saturday
First Baptist Vacation Bible School kicks off this Saturday June 11 at 11 00 a m for children ages 3 through completed 6th grade. A church parade will tour Honey Grove streets then hot dogs at 12 15. Regular sessions run Monday June 14 through Friday June 18 from 9 00 to 11 30 a m with a sack lunch at Crockett Park at noon.

Texas legislature wraps brief special session with tax repeal vote
In a five day session Texas lawmakers passed four constitutional amendments including the state property tax repeal, two appropriations bills and numerous resolutions. Voters will decide in November on the tax repeal, which could leave 17 colleges without a dedicated construction fund. Other amendments address water bond interest, farm tool tax exemptions, and welfare payment limits. Appropriations total about 199 million to support colleges and prison construction. The session cost roughly 300 thousand dollars. Also noted are proposed homeowners insurance rate cuts and rental tenant increases, a state bid rigging suspension affecting 17 contractors, and GOP activity in the agriculture commissioner race with Fred Thornberry likely the nominee.
