Texas schools receive alcohol education funding in Texoma
Four Texoma area school systems in the 1983 84 year will get state funds to teach alcohol education. Total 63 applications backed 215 618 students across 67 districts. Gainesville ISD $10 700 serves 2 690 students. Muenster ISD $3 445 serves 101. Fannindel ISD Ladonia $934 serves 156. Honey Grove ISD $8 175 serves kindergarten through 12th grade. teachers to be trained in alcohol and other drug education integrated into existing curricula.

Former FC Judge Buford Cited By Legislature
A House resolution in Austin honors former Fannin County Judge Jimmie C. Buford who died March 31. Sponsored by Rep. Bob Bush the measure notes Buford served as county judge for eight years and improved county operations. He worked 30 years for Safeway in Dallas then retired to Bonham to raise his family and served as Sunday school teacher and deacon at First Presbyterian Church.

Trio Arrested On Computer Fraud Charge
BONHAM District Attorney Dan Meehan filed criminal charges against U No Co of Rockwall for failure to provide a computer and software as specified in a bid contract. Three indictments by the Sixth District Court Grand Jury accuse the Rockwall company president and two vice presidents of fraud related to an $18,600 procurement. The firm promised a 20 megabyte system with software, but delivered a 5 megabyte unit and later claimed the 20 megabyte system did not exist. The case, aided by Lamar County Attorney Tom Wells, follows delayed responses and halted equipment.

Acting Tax Director Named Acting Tax Director Named BONHAM
Joe Hart of Detroit Red River County has been named acting director of the Fannin County Single Appraisal District following the resignation of Chief Appraiser Bettye Manning. Hart, with the district a year and a half, is pursuing tax appraiser certification and formerly worked for Associated Tax Services of Irving. The ATS firm faces criminal action after closing without necessary computer work to compute county rolls. Hart holds an accounting degree from Texas A&M University and is a Detroit native. Steve Easley, a Honey Grove policeman for sixteen months and a Dallas native who moved from Duncanville, was appointed Chief of Police by the City Commission. Bear Sighted Near Honey Grove Stirs Town Mystery
A truck driver told a Honey Grove officer he saw a bear two miles west of town on U.S. 82. Deputies searched the area with the Fannin County sheriff but no bear was found by late morning. The town jokes about the truth of the sighting while recalling past wildlife.
