Governor Mark White revised his tax plan after the Ways and Means Committee killed all bills related to the program. The proposal shifts from doubling luxury taxes to expanding sales taxes on alcohol and tobacco and alters the fuels tax, raising gasoline to a five percent rate and diesel to 6.5 percent. A special session on taxes seems likely, with lawmakers split over the best path, and even hardliners signaling possible compromise.

The Rev. Shaun Wicker 36 has been assigned as minister of McKenzie United Methodist Church in Honey Grove and will pastor Forest Hill Monkstown and Telephone. He succeeds Dr. Wilson Shelley retiring after two years. Wicker ordained elder planned this week. He and his wife Marsha have two children and move next week to serve starting June 12.
