Legal Fees For Indigents Under Study By Board
Navajo County plans to raise funding for indigent defense in the next budget after a request from Division 2 Superior Court Judge Jay A Abbey. The proposal seeks to double the defense fund to 70,000 and add 8,000 for conflict contingencies, with total next year to reach 77,000. The county currently uses two contracted attorneys Robert Hall and Jones to defend indigent defendants, amid rising caseloads and high unemployment driving crime.
